ScrapFest was held July 10-11 in Lansing's "Old Town" neighborhood. There are festivals in this part of town quite regularly. This was the 16th year in a row for Scrap Fest.
ScrapFest invites artists to head to a local metal recycling company to select up to 500 pounds of waste metals. They then have about a month to create works for entry into the juried exhibition. In addition, vendors set up booths where they can sell their own works made from at least 75% repurposed materials. This is a fun and family-friendly event, with hundreds of people exploring the area.
This event gets bigger and better each year. There were about 60 contest entries and 60 vendor booths this year. You can see all the contest entries here: https://scrapfest.com/scrapfest-16-sculptures. Here are some of my own photos from this year's event, including the Friday night "Refashion" show, some of my favorite art from the vendor booths, and several of the rather incredibly wonderful contest entries.
