About the event
Calling all Lansing- and East Lansing-area residents passionate about low-impact living and vibrant community life—join us for a day of inspiring conversations, meaningful connections, and shared visions for a resilient future!
The day includes topics such as studying food systems, circular economies, agricultural innovations, and bioeconomy options at Michigan State University.
Tentative plans for the day include:
10:00AM – Lansing Co-Housing Neighborhood Visit. Followed by visiting a community composting project and an urban agriculture project. Meet us at: 804 Bancroft Ct, Lansing, MI 48915 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/QFaaozw8mcjEtN3M7)
11:45AM to 12:45PM – Montgomery Drain Project Tour. Meet us at: Jack C. & Susan Davis Amphitheater, 155 Cascade Blvd, Lansing, MI 48912 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/nF19qcU6DMeX4pNA7)
Ingham County Drain Commissioner Patrick Lindemann will join us for a tour and review of the Montgomery Drain Project, which channels stormwater from the Frandor area south, through the new water infrastructure developments on Michigan Avenue, and then to water features that drain into the Red Cedar River. A 100-year-old urban storm drain was rebuilt, using creative and largely natural storm drain infrastructure, eliminating 96% of the 50,000-75,000 pounds of pollution per year used to enter the Red Cedar River. Tour participants are also invited to visit, on their own, a second project built to stop storm water overflows in the Tollgate Drain area on Wood Street in Lansing.
Lunch and Conversation at one of Lansing’s special local food hubs. City of Lansing Sustainability Office is invited to join us for lunch and conversation.
1:00 to 3:30PM – Michigan State University Facility Tour Meet us at: MSU Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research, 4075 College Rd, Lansing, MI 48910 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/uKvVMVwZKVx3n2vG6)
