Community Capital with Chris Miller
Chris Miller is the CEO and a founding board member of the National Coalition for Community Capital (NC3). NC3 is committed to engaging with and facilitating regular, non-wealthy members of every community to be able to invest in projects in their own communities and/or projects aligned with their values. NC3 provides training materials, policy advocacy, on the ground work in communities, and entrepreneur training. Specifically, NC3 is building community investment funds in communities across Michigan and the nation, enabling wealth-building for both individuals and communities, through combinations of comprehensive strategies for owning, governing, and investing in community-based development. Mr. Miller will share proven techniques for community investing, and we'll discuss the many approaches that are ready to use now in Michigan, plus options that NC3 is pursuing with the Michigan legislature.
Ecovillage Cooperative Planning with C.J. Rapp
A new Ecovillage Cooperative is being planned for cottage homes at Boyne City. Founder/director C.J. Rapp will join us to talk about the plans for this new ecovillage of cottages, and explain how people can get involved.
5:30 to 7:30PM – Dinner and Discussion at Middlecoast Brewing Company, Traverse City.
Middlecoast will share with us the many ways they (and other Michigan Microbreweries) are working towards sustainability in their own operations.
Multiple Traverse Area organizations will join us to explore options for high-efficiency buildings powered in part by renewable energy, explore and consider innovations being implemented by multiple Traverse City area groups, and enjoy a dinner and discussions about community approaches to sustainability, reliability, resilience, and ecological restoration. Each guest will pay for their own food and beverages.
